Location

This prominent site is at the junction of the Regents and Hertford Union Canals, adjoining Mile End Park in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Scheme

The site currently comprises of a car park and derelict former warehouse.

Designed by Lewis & Hickey, the scheme proposes 34 new units and 700 sq ft of commercial space split up into three buildings on either side of the canal.

The scheme enhances the Conservation Area in which it sits by providing a new piazza and landscaping and respects the setting of the listed bridge at the canal junction.

Scheme Wins

  • Striking architecture that takes it basis from the traditional warehouse design, but interpreted in a modern way.
  • H2O will work with BW to undertake repairs to the listed bridge.
  • The scheme has ground floor commercial uses that are designed to interact with the remainder of the BW development at Bow Wharf.
  • The new piazza to the south of the canal is to be hard landscaped to enhance access to the canal at the convergence of the canals.
