Norwood Yard, Ealing

Location

In the Norwood Green area of the London Borough of Ealing.

Scheme

The site is a former operational yard now used for open storage.

Lewis & Hickey Architects have designed a contemporary scheme of nine units which centres on the refurbishment of the existing Victorian lock manager's cottage.  The scheme respects the Conservation Area setting and the Listed lock which adjoins the site.

Waterway Wins

  • Retention of  the canal manager's cottage, although it is not listed. This will preserve the historical links of the site, as it will form the focal point for the crescent shaped scheme.
  • The scheme is designed to open up the site, by use of the crescent shape, allowing open areas adjacent to the canal.
  • A new facilities building for the boating community will be constructed as part of the scheme.
  • Existing access to residential moorings will be retained and enhanced.

Scheme Status

Planning permission was granted in November 2009.
