Sustainability

H2O is committed to sustainability.  One of the most frequently quoted definitions of sustainability is from the Brundtland Commission, "sustainability is meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".

A widely held consensus is that for projects to be sustainable, three concepts need to be taken into account simultaneously:

  1. Environmental sustainability;
  2. Economic sustainability; and
  3. Social sustainability.

H2O is committed to enhancing the sustainability of our operations in practical ways that achieve genuine benefits.

In how we work…

  • Create the aspiration for sustainable development amongst our people and partners.
  • Reduce the environmental impact of our own work practices.
  • Participate in public debate about sustainable development policy and targets.

And in what we produce…

  • Implement best practice environmental management appropriate to the project.
  • Monitor and publicise our achievements.
