THE PARTNERS

H2O Urban LLP is owned and managed by British Waterways and bloc.

H2O develops residential and commercial projects adjacent to the British Waterways network in the UK.

bloc is a development company that works with public and private sector landowners.

British Waterways
cares for the nation's 200-year old network of canals, rivers and docks, which attract over 13 million people each year.

As guardians of the waterways, British Waterways plays an important role in the redevelopment and regeneration of waterside property and land. British Waterways has entered into a number of joint ventures with public and private partners, including the H2O joint venture with bloc.

By taking an active role, British Waterways believes it can champion sympathetic yet contemporary waterside development, generate income to help maintain the historic waterways, enhance local environments and reinvigorate the canal and river network. Today British Waterways is involved in nearly £12 billion of waterside regeneration projects nationwide, reinvesting the profits from these schemes to help fund the waterways for future generations.

The Government has backed British Waterways' plans in England and Wales for its canals and rivers to leave state control to become a 'national trust' for the waterways.   This exciting new charity, which is targeted to be up and running by April 2012, will attract new investment and give local people a greater role in how their waterways are run.

The cooperative ethos between the public and private sector partners, marries social responsibility with an entrepreneurial approach. Jointly we have a wealth of specialist expertise in canalside development.

H2O helps British Waterways to:

  • Meet local need
  • Control waterside design quality and mix
  • Promote accessibility and environmental improvements
  • Improve operational facilities
  • Maximise value for reinvestment in the waterways
